2023/10/26:STRIDERS AND ACP ASSET MANAGEMENT SIGN AN MOU TO PROMOTE IN-BOUND INVESTMENTS TO JAPAN AND TO STRENGTHEN CO-INVESTING ACROSS ASIA

Striders Corporation and ACP Asset Management signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim strengthening the partnership between the two companies to promote inbound investments to Japan as well as to explore joint investment opportunities in Asia.

Since 2021, Striders and ACP Asset Management have been working together to co-invest into startups in South Asia, to jointly explore M&A opportunities in Japan and to help companies raise funds. The two companies now wish to capitalize on the increase in business succession related M&A opportunities and the weakening of the Japanese Yen, which have made Japan a hot target for foreign investors, in order to act as the gateway for small to mid-sized foreign investors to enter into Japan. Striders being the local partner in Japan, will be leading the deal sourcing and the structuring of the investments, while ACP Asset Management will be leveraging their vast network of investors from South Asia, Australia, Middle East and Europe. This partnership aims to fill in the vacuum of not having a proper mechanism to create access for the small to mid-sized investors to enter Japan. The main areas of focus would be hospitality, real estate and manufacturing industries. The two parties are already evaluating investing into traditional Japanese townhouses in Kyoto and Kanazawa.

By leveraging on the investment track record and the network of partners of Striders in South and Southeast Asia and the fund management expertise and network of investors of ACP Asset Management, both the companies are exploring to further strengthen the joint venture capital investments as well as fund management business in Asia.

Striders Corporation is a publicly listed company at Tokyo Stock Exchange, which engages in real estate business, hospitality business and investment business. Commenting on the MoU, Ryotaro Hayakawa, the President of Striders Corporation said “We hope this partnership with ACP Asset Management will be the start of a new growth phase for Striders, where we plan to position ourselves as the gateway company to enter into Japan as well as to take Japanese know-how and technology to the rest of the world. To start of this new phase, we could not have imagined a better partner than ACP Asset Management due to their expertise, track record and especially the values that are quite aligned with what we believe at Striders”.

ACP Asset Management is an Australia and Sri Lanka based investment company that engages in investments in public equity, renewable energy, venture capital, etc. Sharad Sridharan, the Co-Founder and the CEO of ACP Asset Management said that “We are very excited to work with Striders, we are very confident in the Striders Leadership and Management Team and look forward to building a long term and sustainable business built on shared values”.
